Thoughts of an Expat Radio Host in the Bahamas

[MARCH 3, 2007 - PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS - VEGAS BUZZ NEWS NETWORK] I'm saddened whenever anyone dies and good person, bad person, non-descript person, it's all death.

However, I don't think we have seen such a media frenzy as we have had with the death of Anna Nicole Smith. Now as actresses or performers go, we will all agree she never received an Academy Award, and I'm sure that those that knew Anna would say that her stint as a "reality show star" really didn't portray the real woman.

Many that I have spoken to that have known Anna said that she truly was a very sincere individual but her public image was clouded as being pegged as a former Playboy model, who married a rich old guy who met her when she worked as a stripper.  You can see where immediately people will draw conclusions.  Well, nothing was more tedious than watching what I felt to be a "carnival" unfold in the death of this woman and I am just glad now that she is laid to rest with her son.  It's almost like a "sigh of relief" that the "Anna saga" won't be continuing and that the woman can get the rest she deserves no matter what you thought of the individual personnaly.  It is about "dignity," which, no matter what our station in life, we all deserve.

What I am happy for - and this comes as a bittersweet note - is  the fact that every international media outlet converged upon the island nation of the Bahamas and opened up this paradise to the world.

There was something that drew Ms. Smith there as it has so many over the years: There is a serenity and a quality of life not found in many places of the world today.  In a time of 15-hour workdays, eating a (to quote singer Tim McGraw) 99-cent heart attack in a sack at the computer terminal, here is a place where LIFE comes first.

So, while many are saddened at a loss often in a sometimes negative situation a positive arises, and maybe, just maybe, it was Anna Nicole Smith's final contribution to her life to bring people to a place where she found beauty and peace.

Over the next days the camera crews will be gone, the reporters will be heading back to their deadlines on the latest "breaking news" and the Bahamas will still be there tranquil and serene.

On a personal note, Anna, I am glad you got to enjoy some of the beauty that so many of us discovered so long ago.  Rest peacefully in Paradise.
