With its reputation as one of Las Vegas' best sushi restaurants, Makino's Flamingo and Decatur location has drawn in a steady line of visitors. The downtown location is no different, drawing in hungry shoppers from the surrounding outlet mall, nearby locals and government types from the adjacent city buildings. Makino's success lies in its selection, which puts all of its downtown competitors to shame: choices such as uni (sea urchin), ama ebi (sweet shrimp) and hamachi (yellow tail) are a rarity in these parts. And while it easily out prices its competitors ($13.95 for weekday lunch; $23.95 for weekday dinner-Holidays and weekends, a dollar extra, 20% senior discount all evenings), you'll be hard-pressed to find a less expensive Japanese meal. The colorful restaurant, with its clean lines and bright lights, leaves no doubt as to what's key here: the 150-foot long buffet, which features cooked items as well as sushi and sashimi, is its focal point, and tasting as many items as possible is your task. -- Jennifer Prosser (Photo: Jennifer Prosser)

The service is usually pretty good, and very friendly as well. It's also very family-friendly, and kids under 12 and 4 feet high can eat for free any time. Definitely worth considering for a family outing!

I will definitely take my mother to Makino's all you can eat gourmet seafood and sush restaurant. Don't let the name fool you! It's probably one of the more healthy places to eat in town, and they don't use any perservatives in the preparation of their very fresh food. The fish is all fresh and well-prepared in various methods from sushi to steamed to baked to broiled, and there are plenty of hot entres such as teriyaki beef and chicken.
It's a very nice, relaxed, laid-back atmosphere with high ceilings and very 'in' design that is a major conversation piece.
If you really want to make your mother happy for Mother's Day and give her a meal she won't soon forget, take her to Makino!
