The Las Vegas Kids Marthon is a 10 week training program that enables kids to complete a full marathon (42.195 kilometers) by running 5 kilometers per week. By doing so, kids develop the tremendous feeling of accomplishment and confidence without the high risk involved with young kids running a full marathon in one day. The program is completed in grand fashion as each kid is able to finish the final 2.195 kilometers of the marathon distance in front of hundreds of cheering fans, friends and family at the Las Vegas Marathon on December 6th 2008.

THE LAS VEGAS MARATHON ANNOUNCES THE 3RD ANNUAL LAS VEGAS KiDS MARATHON

The KiDSMARATHON Training Program will be starting in schools and homes all across the Las Vegas valley on September 22, 2008. During this 10 week training program kids will be accumulating 42.195 kilometers (approximately 4 kilometers per week) in preparation for their ultimate goal of crossing the finish line on race day. They will complete their final 2.195 kilometers in front of a crowd of cheering fans, families, and friends as they cross the “official” finish line of the World Famous Las Vegas Marathon being held the next day.

The Las Vegas KiDSMARATHON Event will be held on Saturday December 6, 2008 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center 3950 S. Las Vegas Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89119. All participating schools, coaches and parents will have direct contact with the Las Vegas Marathon coaching staff and will be provided with all the necessary training materials needed to run a successful and rewarding training program.

By participating in the KiDSMARATHON Training Program, both at school and at home, the kids will learn about health and fitness in a structured yet fun environment. Interview with Terry Collier and presentation of 2008 Las Vegas Marathon

Terry Collier, Executive Director, Las Vegas Marathon, discusses the history of the Las Vegas Marathon and his role over the years. He is also a legacy runner of the Los Angeles Marathon and is the only marathon director anywhere managing two major marathons. The video also introduces the International Japanese marketing staff, Midori Uekusa, and Roy Kawaguchi.

Race history was made on December 4, 2005 when The Las Vegas Marathon became the first race to run the world famous Las Vegas Strip and through the Fremont Street Experience.

The Las Vegas Marathon will return December 7th 2008 with two major developments that speak to the appeal of the event. First, The full marathon will be capped at ten thousand participants. The half marathon will also be capped at 10,000.

Las Vegas is a city of uniqueness, as well as fantasy, where you'll find replicas of all the wonders of the world. Las Vegas itself is a world wonder. The uniqueness of the world's most fabulous city is embodied in the 'new' Las Vegas Marathon.

The 'new' Las Vegas Marathon was started four years ago by Terry Collier, athlete and running enthusiast, and one of only a handful of runners who have completed every single Las Vegas and Los Angeles marathon over the past 20 years.

The marathon has spawned associated marathons, such as the 'Santa Run,' and the 'Elvis Run,' where impersonators of both strut their running stuff in full regalia (sans gifts and guitars).

'RUN-THROUGH WEDDING CHAPEL'

For the fourth year in a row, the Las Vegas Marathon will enable fitness-minded couples running together in the marathon to get married at a wedding chapel comprising the 13th station. "A wedding on the run," if you will.

'They can get divorced at the 14th station," jokes Collier.

Terry Collier Biography

Terry Collier hasn't slowed down since elementary school, so being Race Director of the Las Vegas Marathon is the perfect job for him. Born and raised in Swainsboro, Georgia, Terry began running at a young age, because it was the fastest way to get home from school and spend time with his grandmother. Today, Terry is responsible for all aspects of operations for the Las Vegas Marathon, an event that takes 20,000 runners down the world famous Las Vegas Strip.

His career started in the grocery business, where he was a Store Manager for an independent chain in Atlanta, GA and Vons/Safeway, one of the largest chains in the country. For more than 30 years, Terry earned a reputation as one of the most respected leaders in his business, and was asked to work on employee development programs that were adopted company wide. The decision to leave the grocery business and be the Race Director for the Las Vegas Marathon was an easy one for Terry. As a Legacy Runner of the Los Angeles Marathon, Terry has completed each of the 23 endurance events. In 2006, Terry had the added responsibility of being Race Director for that event, and in order to maintain his legacy status, ran the entire marathon by himself the week before the event.

The transition from running a grocery store to running a marathon was an easy one, because Terry's main focus is on the customer. "A marathon isn't just another event for a runner--it is an awesome experience--and my job is to make sure they have the best experience possible--from the minute they decide to run our event up until the time the customer emails us three weeks after they finished."

Terry attended Cerritos College in Cerritos, CA where he studied business. He then took Advanced Running courses at UCLA, while continuing his business studies. Terry still runs because he enjoys the discipline and stress relief it brings to his hectic schedule. In addition to being a Legacy Runner of the Los Angeles Marathon, Terry was chosen to carry the Olympic Torch in 1996 for the Atlanta Summer Games, which is proudly displayed in his office. A million thoughts go through your head when you are holding it high--the same as when you see the Finish Line after running 26 miles. It is the greatest feeling in the world!" VBN

Las Vegas - Las Vegas Roadrunners, a comprehensive training program that prepares runners of all levels for The Las Vegas Marathon, now offers three weekly group-training locations.

The Las Vegas Marathon will take place on Sunday Dec. 7, 2008 at 6 a.m. at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Fireworks start the race as runners run down the legendary Las Vegas Strip. Once 20,000 runners are signed up for the full and half marathon combined, registration will be closed.
