On a fateful December 2, 2004, Ron Dante, ever-famous for the incredibly-awesome 60's Bubble Gum Mega-Hit "Sugar, Sugar," was gracious enough to grant an interview to Vegas Buzz/Vegas Buzz Radio for syndication.
Topics covered included history of the star, the events leading up to the recording of the #1 Hit of 1969, and Ron's long and illustrious career ever since.
We boned up on our music history and found numerous references everywhere in the literature to Ron Dante and the whole teen music scene that still lives strong today in the personae of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, the Backstreet Boys and many others.
Not only was Bubblegum a genre unto itself, it spanned many different types of music while creating its own distinctive, upbeat sound. Indeed, textbooks have been written on the subject. After all, it's part and parcel of American pop culture.
When not writing or singing hits songs or writing B-sides, Ron has been busy singing commercials, and many of his earlier songs, including "Sugar, Sugar" have been licensed for use in commercials, such as the recent Applebys' commercials, and even episodes of "The Simpsons."
Ron will be appearing in a special Memorial Day 2005 Performance at The Cannery, Las Vegas. Be There!

LETTER FROM RON
In 1999-2000, I finished producing several videos which
include some of the best artists of the 60's
and 70's. These videos include such artists as
The Association, The Grass Roots, Mark Lindsay,
Lou Christie, and Brian Hyland
just to name a few. Also, I am involved in the
development of some exciting new recording artists.
Even though I am currently enjoying the weather in
sunny California, I was born in Staten Island,
New York. I started my career as a singer/songwriter
with Don Kirshner at the age of 16. I started
producing and singing my own demos for him and
sang on many records.
I produced some of The Archie albums and sang on all of
them as well as "Sugar, Sugar" which was the
number one song in 1969. 1969 was a fun year for me.
Not only did I sing "Sugar, Sugar", I also
sang a song called "Tracy" which charted at #5
at the same time. I was also the singing voice on many
commercials over the years for products which most of you
are familiar with.
Barry and I met while we were both singing a commercial which
Barry had written. The other singers on that commercial were
Valerie Simpson and Melissa Manchester. Barry asked me to
listen to some of his songs that day and I did. I knew right
away that he was a star. I felt with our shared talents and
experiences we could create some hit records together... and
the rest is history as they say.
I'm always keeping busy. It's great that today I have the
opportunity to utilize the internet to keep in contact
with new fans & friends. Anyone who'd like to email me
feel free to do so. I try to answer every email I get!
With Lots of LOVE,
Ron Dante

EDITOR'S NOTE: We couldn't agree more. The future is indeed digital, and it's here and now. The Internet is the digital MTV of the millenium. Some of the same protests are apparent, but not as much anymore. Napster, i-Tunes, Amazon, everybody's getting on the digital bandwagon. MP3 files are the best way ever discovered to promote a tune at virtually no cost - the whole CD, too.
As Ron brought out, the Internet is the best thing that could have ever happened to music lovers. And the artists, too. Recording companies might not agree, but they're still wrong, nevertheless. We ourselves have bought countless albums we first heard as a midi, or an MP3 tune, or perhaps on a Real Rhapsody Radio session.
Ron Dante's website provides a feast for the eyes and ears with the video of the Archies and Appleby's commercials featuring "Sugar, Sugar."

Thank you for the cool interview with Ron. I'm sure he and Andy Kim will put on a fantastic show at The Cannery on Memorial Day weekend. Ron's idea to have The Archies cartoon playing on a screen above and behind him as he sings their songs is a stroke of genius! That's gonna make for a great special effect (which of course Vegas is famous for!).
Your interview was very well done and I thank you for archiving it on your site.
Happy 2005,
Laura
We try! I'll be sure to let Ron know about your comments. I'm sure it will be a great show! Hope you and your friends can make it to Vegas to see the show!
