Vegas Buzz Memorial Day Message
On this Memorial Day, as we fire up the barbeques and get ready to spend quality time with friends and loved ones, let us remember those whose friends and loved ones are at the front.
Wars are tragic and bring tragic consequences. Let us pray for a speedy return for those who are at war today on our behalf.
Let us also give a few thoughts to the tireless efforts of those who continue to fight in more than one war.
The first is Air Force Nurse Maggie Lockridge, retired veteran of many war theatres, and author of 'Facelift Hotel.'
She is currently involved in efforts to provide follow-up reconstructive and cosmetic surgery to seriously disfigured returning Iraq War Vets.
To say it is a noble cause is to understate, perhaps even undermine, its true worth. It is an effort that transcends nobility and gives hope to the human spirit. Too often, veterans of wars are patched up as best as possible given the per-vet quota and scope of allocated medical treatment, and sent off on their way, still shattered, albeit arguably in one piece. The greatest trauma these vets face is attempting to return to a 'normal' life, usually after being shunned and or abandoned by friends and even loved ones. Some of the stories are heart-wrenching. All they did was answer the call and put their lives on the line for us and our way of life.
Following up where military treatment leaves off, Iraq Star provides compassionate care, treatment and counseling to badly injured vets in their journey back to normalcy and the kind of life they fought and almost died for.

ABOUT IRAQ STAR
IraqStar is a 501-3(c) non-profit foundation providing reconstructive surgery for returning Iraq War veterans.
Burns, shrapnel and artillery wounds leave disfiguring scars. IED's are the signature injury of the over 24,000 returning wounded veterans. The VA provides limited essential surgery to make the soldier functional again. Cosmetic and re-constructive surgeries essential to return to their pre-war professional and social lives must be performed elsewhere and funded by the individual.
